Eat – Pineapple Bun with Butter


Pineapple Bun with Butter = 菠蘿油

Cantonese Pinyin: bo1 lo4 jau4

It makes my day to have a freshly baked pineapple bun with butter to come with a cup of  milk tea.

Cultural Points:

  • You can’t really find pineapple ingredient outside or inside the bun. Its name comes from the golden crispy topping that resembles a pineapple.
  • The pineapple bun initially has no filling.  At a later time, some Cha Chaan Teng enhance its flavour by slicing the bread half open in the middle and add a small slice of cold butter. The butter melts and is absorbed by the bread, making it extraordinarily good.
